Chapter 8: Siren Town
Bai Liu got on the car and smelled the strong fishy odor coming from the front row, he always thought it was from Andre because the man had eaten a very large amount of rotten fish fillets in the morning, but he didn't think it was actually from the driver.
Then the fishy odor he smelled in the car yesterday was presumably from the driver as well, but it was in a completely different concentration category than today.
The fishy odor was much stronger on this driver today.
Bai Liu glances around at the driver, who... feels like he should be a monster as well.
[Warning! Player recognition error! The npc is not a monster! Cannot be entered into the monster book! It's just in a state of alienation!
[Player misidentification, the npc's trust in the player has dropped drastically, and may engage in aggressive behavior towards the player]
The driver slowly tore a bite of the sandwich in his hand, his wobbly eyes looked at Bai Liu for a moment, and suddenly said in a nasty tone, "...... Are you thinking that the smell on me is disgusting?"
Bai Liu said yes in his heart, but on the surface, he hastily denied, "No."
"You're looking at me like I'm a monster, heh, damn arrogant rich people." The driver said grimly, and after that, he turned his head and went over to eat, not bothering with Bai Liu's question anymore.
Gee, it's a bit tricky.
Bai Liu thought without moving, so that his difficulty in obtaining information was instantly increased by a lot.
And there was no way he was going to push this driver hard; the panel had already hinted that this driver would be aggressive towards Bai Liu.
Bai Liu looks at Lucy next to him, whispers a few words, and coaxes Lucy to ask the driver.
The driver grunted, but answered Lucy's question.
"The attractions in the town of Siren certainly have something to do with mermaids."
The driver smiled a goosebump-inducing smile, his eyes darting in and out of their sockets, and you didn't even know who he was looking at and talking to.
"Our fishing is not for ordinary fish, there is a special fishing for mermaids, all held only at night. And our wax museum is not just any wax museum, we make wax figures of the mermaids we catch and put them on display in the wax museum."
"The first mermaid skeleton we caught back in the day is in the wax museum."
"Mermaid fishing?" Bai Liu asked, "You actually caught mermaids?"
The driver ignored Bai Liu.
Lucy asked again before the driver answered.
The driver gave an impish smile, "Yes, it is indeed a mermaid, although all the ones caught later were of inferior and low quality and incomplete forms, except for the first one, which was a very beautiful mermaid."
Andre suddenly grunted in contempt, "It's just a gimmick, you guys don't really have anyone to believe it, do you?"
Jeff opens his mouth to say something, but closes it again, presumably afraid to voice a retort because he's just been beaten up by Andre this morning.
But not Lucy, who looked at Andre with a very disgruntled look and exclaimed, "I'll believe it! Bai Liu what about you?" She said and turned her head to Bai Liu with a furious look.
"Seeing is believing." Bai Liu faded, "You'll know when you watch the fishing event at night."
Andre doesn't dislike Lucy, but he hates Bai Liu and scoffs back word for word: "I hope some people don't take the opportunity to watch the fishing event at night and just cry clinical tears."
As he spoke, an evil smile with a wicked sense of humor showed on his face, his eyes raked over Bai Liu, "If you fall off the board screaming and get caught as a mermaid by these fishermen to be made into a wax statue, we're definitely not going to save you."
Andre shrugs his shoulders in a false sense of humor while grinning impishly, as if he's already seen Bai Liu hit the water.
Bai Liu remembers that he has an unfulfilled bet with this Andre night.
He'd gotten the details of the bet out of Lucy this morning.
Andre and Bai Liu have to rent two canoes to spend the night drifting on the Siren Sea, and whoever can't stand to go back first is a coward and doesn't deserve Lucy.
Lucy herself didn't want to have this bet, but Bai Liu played the role of the head iron, must come.
In a horror game centered around [mermaids], the late night sea is certainly a very scary place.
Bai Liu would never let himself go to a place like this with someone who had a good head on his shoulders and was clearly not interested in him when he didn't know what was going on. He
There is no doubt that Andre would have overturned his ship and buried him at sea if he had met him at sea.
Bai Liu doesn't know water.
In a way, the mermaid Siren Siren or whatever is far less frightening to Bai Liu than the sea water itself.
Bai Liu won't go near the ocean unless he has to.
Bai Liu's scowl betrayed his rejection of this so-called betting activity.
Andre laughed with unrestrained mockery, "Look, look, here's our young master, what have you got better than me except money? Don't even dare to go to the sea."
Bai Liu nodded with genuine pleasure, "I'm nothing but rich."
But having money was enough to make him feel satisfied, even if it was a virtual setting of coins he was happy.
Andre: "......"
Why does this man look like he's being complimented?
Andre snorted, "So you're giving up on Lucy by not going?"
Bai Liu was just about to show Andre that he didn't want to go to this death-defying activity when the coin on his chest vibrated and a quest prompt popped up:
Trigger the side quest [The Ship of True Love], ask player Bai Liu to complete the bet before leaving the town of Siren, win Andre in the bet, points reward 100].
Bai Liu: "......"
It's amazing that the point reward is so much as a hundred!
The desire for money instantly overcomes the fear of the water, and Bai Liu calmly replies, "No, I'll go, and I'll make sure I beat you."
Lucy touched Bai Liu and hugged him : "Oh baby, we must stay together when you come back and have a pleasant evening."
Bai Liu silently took Lucy's hand away.
The driver turned his head, "Why don't you guys go ahead and check out our wax museum during the day, it's not mermaid fishing until the evening."
A line of people said yes.
The driver drove the car in seven turns around the back of a beach.
Bai Liu saw a lot of sun-dried debris on that beach.
The driver said that this is where the mermaids were caught, and that the wreckage was the fragmented remains of the mermaids that were caught, some of which were just too broken to be discarded on the beach.
Bai Liu did see a number of large fish tail bones and some white skulls, which were strewn messily on the beach next to a couple of nets that were drying.
A fisherman came out to gather up the bones and nets, and looked up to meet Bai Liu's eyes. Bai Liu hadn't noticed what these townspeople looked like during the night, but now that he's seen them during the day ......
These townspeople were very strange looking, and bore an eerie resemblance to the driver, but were even more hunted and inhuman than the driver.
The whites of their eyes were white, so white that they were abnormal, and yet their pupils were only a little bit the size of a soybean rattling around aimlessly in their sockets.
The eyes are widely spaced and seem to grow next to the ears on both sides of the face, much like the catfish in Bai Liu's impression.
They also had grayish-black marbling around their eyes that suffused from them down to their necks, and their movements were sluggish and ungainly when they walked in the sunlight, the backs of their feet rubbing repeatedly on the sand as if they were itching.
If Bai Liu hadn't mistaken, they also seemed to have some green scales on the backs of their feet that were going to come off or not.
They smile at Bai Liu's car, which passes by, with a kind of frozen, dumbfounded grin, like a child sniffing food.
Lucy was also taken aback by the looks of these fishermen and she muttered in a small voice, "They're so strange looking."
These fishermen are much stranger looking than the drivers, more like ...... some kind of strange looking deep sea fish than people.
The driver swallowed the last bite of his sandwich, which reeked of a strong fishy odor, and smiled with a mouthful of black teeth stained with surimi, "Really? We all look like that here, probably because we eat all kinds of fish and it's not very healthy."
Bai Liu narrowed his eyes, he thought these individual townspeople were kinda like monsters too, but he stopped halfway through his thought.
The driver he then misidentified.
Although both the townspeople and the driver are obviously quite inhuman, the driver may not be entered into the [Monster Book], and there is a certain probability that this monstrous townspeople who are similar to the driver do not conform to the game's monster settings, and it would be no joke if they inspired the hate value of so many townspeople.
But Bai Liu wasn't stupid enough to actually think that the strange-looking townspeople weren't monsters.
There are two possibilities for not being a monster:
The first: it really isn't.
The second: It may be that it doesn't meet a certain standard as determined by the monster book.
This "Siren Town" has a very peculiar setting where you can [hatch] and [alienate], and the mermaid wax figure can hatch, and Andre is in an alienated state in the morning, and Bai Liu feels that these townspeople seem to be in some kind of transformation state as well, which is why it seems so incestuous.
And what the result of these two states was, Bai Liu didn't know, he guessed it might be the monster, but he needed to verify it.
Bai Liu slowly moved his gaze to Andre, who was sitting in front of him.
He wasn't actually unable to save Andre last night.
But to him, Andre, an NPC like this who was somewhat aggressive towards him, was worth more to die than to survive.
Andre watched the driver suck with relish on his fingers with a bit of fish still remaining, his appetite rising uncontrollably, and he swallowed with glazed eyes and scratched his ever-itchy cheeks again in annoyance.
He then looked at Bai Liu, who was sitting behind him, in the car's rearview mirror with spiteful eyes.
Bai Liu This man is so rich, why not even let him eat enough for a few pieces of fish fillets, he is now so hungry that when he sees something in the driver s hand, he can t help but grab it and eat it.
But the driver ate so fast that before Andre had a chance to move, the driver had finished eating and was rubbing his stomach in a state of intoxication.
Watching the driver lick away the minced fish at the corner of his mouth with a delicious look on his face, Andre once again recalled the moist, smooth and incomparably tantalizing texture of that fish fillet, and his saliva continued to secrete in his mouth as his throat rolled involuntarily. He'd never had a fillet that good.
No, it wasn't just the fillets, all the fish here was cooked in such a way that he couldn't stop eating it with its fresh flavor.
The driver tersely sighed in contentment, "It's so delicious, only the fish from the town of Siren is this good."
Lucy also complimented, "Yes, I've never had such good fish, it was so fresh."
"No, it's not fresh, the secret of the delicious fish of Siren Town never lies in the freshness, even this kind of fish doesn't taste good when eaten fresh, it needs to rot and then undergo a certain amount of curing and special treatment in order to be tasty." The smile on the driver's face became wry, "What you are eating is a very special kind of fish, a fish that is not found anywhere else, a fish that is unique to Siren Town."
Lucy asked curiously, "What kind of fish?"
Driver: "Mermaid."
